Privacy policy

Last update: 22 June 2010

Introduction

Google now requires us to have a privacy policy. It seems a little harsh, but as ilikebargains.com are committed to protecting any data that we collect concerning you it’s not too hard I guess. By using our services you agree to the use of the data that we collect in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

We are committed to protecting your privacy

We collect the minimum amount of information about you that we need to provide you with a satisfactory service, and of course, this policy is trying to tell you what information we’re going to capture and what we might do with it. The bottom line is that we are committed to protecting your privacy, but of course, if you don’t agree with this policy, please don’t use the site, and definitely don’t give us any information.

What information do we collect?

When you fill in a form on our site, you’re giving us information, so of course we collect that. Typically it may be your name (real or assumed), email address etc. We allow integration with other services too, like Facebook, Google, Hotmail etc for logging in and commenting, and those identities may be captured too, although we never store your credentials for other sites. We use a third party, RPX Now, for this, which you can find at http://ilikebargains.rpxnow.com. They have their own policies too which you should check.

From time to time, we may also collect other information about you that you give us, such as your address, phone number etc. If we ever sell you stuff, you might have to share this or more information with our payment processor, and we may receive this information from them even if you’ve not told us it directly. We will never store credit card data, even if we get it, although our payment provider may.

We also track how people navigate through the site, such as what links or adverts they click on, or how long they stay on pages.

How can I get you to delete my data?

That’s easy. Contact us at contact@ilikebargains.com

Transfer of Data outside the EU

Not a lot I can say about this, but it’s worth bringing it to your attention: your data may be transferred, stored or processed in countries outside the EU.

How we use your information

We only collect your information to help us run the site. This means mainly it’s for personalisation so that when you do things on the site, they are tailored to you – for example, showing a photo you upload next to your comments.

Protecting your data

We take all reasonable steps to protect your data from both compromise and from loss, including maintaining appropriately secured backups.

Cookies

Like any site on the interweb these days, we use cookies. Disable them if you want, but you may find it hard to use some parts of our site. Your choice: no-cookies is fine by me but i can’t help you with things that don’t work.

You should also be aware that third parties may be placing and reading cookies on your machine when you access our site. This may be from the adverts that we place on the site, merchants who sell stuff for us, or website analysis companies that we use from time to time to help us understand how our site is used.

So when will we share or disclose information?

In short, there are three circumstances that we’ll share your information:

  1. we are compelled to by law. If we’re asked to release information (e.g. to the police), we’ll only comply if compelled to do so by a court order. If we’re allowed to tell you, we will, but this may not be possible.
  2. When you buy something from us, we may have to share some information with our merchants to enable the sale.
  3. We may share information in aggregate – for example, the number of visitors to a site or our most popular articles and so on. We’ll only do this when we make it anonymous.

Will you ever change this policy?

We may well change this policy, so you should check back here from time to time. We’ll always put the date of the last update at the top, and highlight changes if they’re substantial. Usually though they’re just typos.

Contacting Us

If you have any questions about our Privacy Policy, or if you want to know what information we have collected about you, please email us at contact@ilikebargains.com.

Remind me – where else should I check?

Well, we use Google Adsense, so check here for their policy, and we use RPX Now from Janrain, who’s privacy policy is here.
